Piano practice and sheet music

Sonira Sound vs flowkey: your own scores or guided lessons?

flowkey is designed around learning through guided courses and a prepared song library. Sonira Sound is designed around reading and practicing scores you bring yourself. Both can listen while you play, so the useful question is which practice workflow you need.

A lesson library and a score workspace solve different problems

flowkey combines piano instruction with a curated library and pianist video. That can be helpful when you want a prepared route through new skills or a song already arranged for the service.

Sonira includes practice exercises and public-domain editions. Import MusicXML, MXL or MIDI for your own repertoire, or read an original PDF manually. PDF and photo conversion creates playable notation through the beta recognition workflow. Photos need conversion before practice. Sonira is a practice companion rather than a complete lesson curriculum.

Both offer listening practice

flowkey documents Wait Mode, which pauses until you play the correct notes, as well as loops and separate-hand practice. A wait-for-notes mode is not exclusive to Sonira.

Sonira’s Study mode applies expected-note gates to your playable scores. Its Play mode is more tolerant for performance following, with scrolling or page turns. Importing arbitrary personal scores into flowkey was not established in the official pages reviewed, so confirm with flowkey if that is central to your decision.

Choose around your repertoire and learning needs

Try flowkey if you want lessons, video demonstrations and a ready-made catalog. Try Sonira if you already have scores, work with a teacher, or want an independent reading and practice companion.

Sonira has a one-time Unlimited Imports unlock and separate PDF/image conversion credits. flowkey offers paid subscription plans. Prices and promotions vary, so compare the current local offers rather than treating a quoted price as permanent.

For either app, test the microphone with your own instrument and room. Listening feedback is a practice aid. It does not establish correct rhythm, phrasing, technique or musical interpretation on its own.
